SCOTT CITY, Kan. (KSNW) – A man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Scott County in western Kansas early Saturday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred on U.S. 83 Highway about 9 miles north of Scott City shortly after 6:30 a.m.

KHP troopers say a 2005 Cadillac passenger car was traveling southbound on US 83 at a high rate of speed when it veered onto the southbound shoulder then crossed over into the northbound ditch and rolled over multiple times in a wheat field. The driver, 36-year-old Lucas Todd Matthies of Scott City, was ejected and died at the scene.

The patrol did not report what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
