DERBY, Kan. (KSNW) – A hand grenade was found inside a box of donated items in a Derby thrift store Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were the first to respond to the scene shortly after 3:15 p.m. They then called police who cordoned off the area around the store. The store was evacuated a short time after that.

Molly Fox, the marketing director at Goodwill Industries, said everyone got out of the store safely.

“They found what appeared to be a hand grenade and they followed procedure of telling a manager and clearing out the store of employees and guests for the safety of everybody involved,” said Fox.
