WICHITA, Kansas (KSNW) – Winding its way through the U.S., the Women’s Pro Bowling Tour arrives at North Rock Lanes in Wichita this week.
With tens of thousands of dollars at stake, multiple bowlers with Wichita State University ties are set to compete at the PWBA Open including ex-Shocker turned Derby High English teacher Alexis Ijams.
The California native told KSN, the Air Capital is well represented on the Pro Tour. “We’re Newman alumni, we’re Wichita State alumni, international players galore.” Annually competing on the bowling tour once the school year wraps up, Ijams added, “It’s almost the entire summer roughly, which makes it great.”
This week’s tournament in Wichita welcomes amateurs and professionals. Current WSU Shocker Sydney Brummett said, “Some of us don’t have PWBA cards like myself-you can’t bowl in college and have your card at the same time, so I’m technically an amateur, but I can still come out here and compete against the best women in the world.”
The Pro Am gets underway this Thursday and continues through Saturday at Northrock Lanes.
