GREAT BEND, Kan. (KSNW) – A Great Bend man was killed and a Hutchinson man injured in a rollover crash at the Barton/Stafford County line Sunday.

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said deputies were notified of a one-vehicle rollover crash on Southeast 70th Rd. about 6:15 a.m.  When they arrived on the scene, they found a black 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup resting on its top.  They first discovered the passenger who was injured, then found the driver who had been ejected from the truck.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver is identified at 20-year-old Jakob Dakota Kinney of Great Bend.  The passenger, 20-year-old Dakota Wade James of Hutchinson, refused treatment at the scene.

Bellendir said the pickup was northbound approaching the Barton/Stafford County line when it missed a turn, went into a skid, left the roadway and rolled about three-and-one-half times.

The passenger said he was trapped inside before freeing himself and going for help.  When the man couldn’t find help, he returned to the scene of the crash and was discovered by a passing motorist at about 6:15 a.m.

Bellendir said the crash occurred about 2:30 a.m.
