Suspect arrested in crash that killed 2, injured 5

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A Wichita man, involved in a fatal accident, has been booked into the Sedgwick County jail.

Two people were killed and five others injured in the roll-over crash near the intersection of Newell and Young streets shortly before 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The suspected driver of the Cadillac Escalade crashed into a van carrying staff members and clients of Starkey Development.

Sedgwick County jail records show 56-year-old Bret Blevins was arrested Saturday in the 600 block of N. Anna, on suspicion of multiple charges.

The charges include two counts of involuntary manslaughter, probation violation, three counts of aggravated battery while driving under the influence and causing great bodily harm, failing to stop at an accident, running a stop sign, and driving on a suspended, revoked or cancelled license.

The two killed were disabled clients of Starkey, Inc. A third client was taken to Via Christi St. Francis hospital in critical condition.

Two staff members in the van were taken to Via Christi St. Francis. At last report, they were listed in good and fair condition.

Blevins and another person in the Escalade were also injured.

According to police, both vehicles rolled numerous time.

Blevins’ bond has been set at $300,000.
