Overnight shooting leaves man in critical condition

A shooting in west Wichita early Sunday morning left a man in critical condition, police say.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – One person was critically wounded in a shooting in south Wichita early Sunday morning.

Wichita Police Sgt. Joe Kennedy said the incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of S. Vine.  That’s south of West McCormick and west of South Seneca.

Kennedy said when officers responded to the scene the found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest.  The man was taken to Via Christi St. Francis hospital in critical condition.  As of noon Sunday, the man was still in critical condition.

Police said witnesses were taken in to be interviewed.

Police are unclear as to the motive for the shooting.

No suspect has been taken into custody.
