HAYSVILLE, Kan. (KSNW) – Three people were hurt in a two-car accident near Campus High School Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 5:45. According to police, a 40-year-old man from Wichita was driving southbound on Meridian when he crossed the center line into the northbound lane.
A 19-year-old driver from Haysville was in the lane at the time with a 20-year-old passenger from Wichita in the car. Police say, he tried to hit the brakes, but could not avoid the collision.
The 40-year-old, who was not wearing his seat belt, was pinned and had to be extricated from the car by firefighters. The 19-year-old was wearing his seat belt, but his airbag did not deploy. Both drivers were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The 20-year-old passenger was also wearing a seat belt and treated for minor injuries.
Traffic was blocked within most of the 5200 block of Meridian. The scene of the accident was primarily in the northbound lane, but one southbound lane was also blocked.
Police are still investigating what caused the 40-year-old to cross the center line.
