WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita Police report they are investigating a suspicious death that occurred in west Wichita early Friday morning.

WPD spokesperson Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said officers were dispatched to a home in the 1800 block of W. McCormick about 6:55 a.m. to the report of a shooting. When they arrived on the scene they located a 19-year-old man deceased in the home’s living room.  No one else was in the home at the time, Woodrow said.

Police say the victim was pronounced dead shortly after 7:15 a.m.

Woodrow said the investigation so far has revealed the home belongs to the victim’s work supervisor, and that the victim was there to go to work.

Residents of the home were located and taken to police headquarters to be interviewed.  Those interviewed revealed three people were in the living room when a 22-year-old suspect in the case picked up a rifle and one shot was fired.  Investigators are working to determine if the shooting was accidental or intentional.

The suspect was taken into custody at about 2:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of W. McCormick.

The investigation into the incident continues.
