Funeral Saturday for Marine killed in crash off Hawaii

WOODRUFF, S.C. (AP) — A funeral service is being held for a South Carolina Marine who died when two helicopters collided off Hawaii earlier this year.

Media outlets report that a funeral with military honors is being held for Sgt. Jeffrey Sempler in Woodruff on Saturday.

Sempler was one of 12 Marines who died in a night training exercise back in January.

Sempler was a 2011 graduate of Woodruff High School where he was an honor student. His father is an officer with the Woodruff Police Department.
