Backstop Dean re-signs with Wingnuts

WICHITA, Kansas – The Wichita Wingnuts have brought back another familiar face for the 2016 season as catcher Brent Dean has been re-signed for the 2016 season.

A member of the Wingnuts since 2014, Dean has hit .289 in 90 games for Wichita over the last two years, seeing most of his playing time behind the plate, but also seeing time in the outfield as well. Over those two campaigns, Dean has posted four home runs, 32 RBIs, and stolen 12 bases.

After splitting his college career between Los Angeles Harbor College and UCLA, Dean signed with Sioux City in 2009, playing his first six
professional games for the Explorers that season.

The following year, the California native was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers, and he responded by driving in 30 runs in 44 games for rookie-level Helena during the 2010 campaign.

After starting the season in Helena again in 2011, Dean made his full-season minor league debut later that year, reaching High-A Brevard County where he spent the entirety of his 2012 season. In 2013, Dean featured for both Class-A Wisconsin and Brevard County, his final season with the organization.

In his four seasons with Milwaukee, Dean compiled a .242 batting average with seven home runs and 56 RBIs. He was released from the organization in the spring of 2014, opening the door for him to sign with the Wingnuts for the first time.

The ninth season of Wichita Wingnuts baseball begins on Thursday, May 19th at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
