Mosque in West Wichita vandalized with graffiti

WICHITA, Kansas – Police were called to the report of a vandalism at the Islamic Association of Mid-Kansas at 3406 W. Taft.

According to Sgt. Steve Yarberry, with the Wichita Police Department, the incident happened sometime between Friday after 2:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:15 a.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found graffiti on the south side of the building and on the privacy fence next to the building.

The graffiti consisted of pitchforks, numbers and stars. The damage was estimated at $500.

Police say it is unclear whether or not it is gang-related or if someone was targeting the mosque.

The Islamic Association of Mid-Kansas was also the focal point of an arson in 2011, which caused $150,000 in damage.
