ELKHART, Kansas – The wildfire in Morton County in southwest Kansas is mostly contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
In a news release, Greg Goodland with the Forest Service said the fire, which began on the morning of April 5th, is now 95 percent contained.
Goodland said the fire is 60 percent on U.S. Forest Service Cimarron Ranger District land and 40 percent on private lands.
The fire started about two miles north of Wilburton and burned into town where one residence and seven outbuildings were eventually lost. All power to the area has since been restored.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
