Newton home destroyed in early morning fire

NEWTON, Kansas – Fire crews were called to a house fire in Newton early Thursday morning. It happened in the 300 block of East 6th St.

When crews arrived, the house was fully involved in the fire.

Two people were inside the home at the time, but they were able to get out safely.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg.  He was checked out, and his leg was not broken.

There is no word yet on what caused that fire.

The home is considered a total loss. No damage estimates were given.
