DERBY, Kansas – The St. Jude Dream Home in Derby is now a reality and a big part of that is due to the generosity of the community; however it takes more than people reserving tickets to make a project like this come together, the companies that built the home also went above and beyond with how they donated. We’ve had multiple companies donating everything from lumber to appliances to make all of this come together.
The way the program works to get money back to the hospital is through using the money donated to offset any costs that may come up in the house, then the rest goes to the hospital. “On average, a dream home is about 70 percent donated,” said Curtis Cowgill with Nies Homes, “right now, we’re about 97 percent donated. So we’re doing really well and it’s all thanks to our amazing partners and the community for their quick purchase of the tickets.”
Due to the overwhelming response from the community, officials with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital set up a way to donate. “St. Jude has set up a special link, or donation platform, that anybody in Wichita that still wants to contribute to the hospital can go to this link and donate to the hospital and all the funds donated get applied against any of the costs that we had on the house,” said Cowgill. “So, we’re hoping for a fully donated home.”
