South Titans celebrate 4-peat

WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita South High School honored several of its sports teams on Monday in the school gym, including one of the most dominating squads in local prep history.

Altogether, an extremely wide-range of athletes received recognition, including the school’s three-sport stars, track standouts, swimmers, the baseball team and beyond.

The featured attraction was South’s highly-decorated Girl’s State Champion basketball team. The Titans completed a 4-peat this year.

At least two players on the Titans will play Division-I basketball after high school including Ericka Mattingly. The senior standout told KSN, “Every year we’ve worked hard to maintain the goal, you know it’s set every year to win state, I think it is for all teams, but we wound up getting it done. The best thing is the team aspect of it all, we’ve all gotten so close together throughout the years and it’s pretty sad that it’s kind of setting in that this is my last year, we’ve only lost four games throughout my whole career.”

Head coach Antwain Scales has won four state titles in only five years at the helm at South High.
