Derby man arrested in high-speed pursuit in Kingman, Pratt counties

PRATT COUNTY, Kansas – Officials say a Derby man was arrested in connection to a high-speed pursuit in Kingman and Pratt counties on Saturday.

Around 7 p.m., a Kingman County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle for a speeding violation about nine miles west of Kingman.

The motorcycle led the deputy into Pratt County with speeds exceeding 100 mph. The motorcycle turned onto Cairo Road, where the driver lost control and laid the motorcycle down. The driver then got back on the motorcycle, and as the deputy arrived, the motorcycle collided with the deputy’s vehicle.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken into custody. He has been identified as 28-year-old Cody Wayne Becker from Derby. He was booked into the Kingman County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude police, speeding, transporting an open container and a driver’s license violation.
