DAYTON, Ohio – The Wichita State Shockers will face Vanderbilt Tuesday night in the NCAA tournament. Tip off is at 8:10 p.m.
On Monday, Evan Wessel said that even though they didn’t have much time to prepare for Vanderbilt, having a full week of practice plays in their favor.
Ron Baker mentioned he liked the way the team practiced all week. They had good rhythm, and they played with high energy. He believes their game against the Commodores is a bonus.
“Coach has never been in a play-in game. I don’t think. Neither have we. I think it kind of gives us a head start though. Get a game under our belt, hopefully get a win and hop on a jet, go to the next location. Be like an NBA schedule. Hopefully, we can get to a hot start. Go from there,” said Baker.
“I think, as a group ,we felt pretty confident about it and like I said, just ready to play anybody, no matter who it is, and it’s Vanderbilt. We know they’re a pretty good team, just get ready and go to work,” said Fred VanVleet.
Gregg Marshall hasn’t played in a play-in game. He thought his team deserved a higher seed, but he said he wasn’t surprised about having to play in Dayton. Marshall said he is used to Wichita State having to prove themselves.
While Marshall wasn’t pleased with their seeding, players didn’t mind it. They were very clear when speaking, they’d play anyone, anywhere. They were just happy to be in it.
