Kansas Jayhawks arrive in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa – Leading up to their 2015-’16 NCAA Tournament opener, the Kansas Jayhawks arrived in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday.

They enter Thursday’s game with the 16th seed Austin Peay Governors as the number one team in the nation and the top overall seed.

Taking out two Top-25 opponents in the Big 12 tourney, the Jayhawks are currently 30-4.

As far as the mindset of his players, KU’s Bill Self said, “They’re rested and we know what to expect a little bit, but we don’t know if someone will try to throw something different at us.”

Self spoke about the importance of stopping the Governors Chris Horton, their standout senior center.

He also noted the Governors shot very well to sweep their way through the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

About two dozen fans turned out to greet the team as they arrived at the team hotel in downtown Des Moines.

Tim Talley is a lifelong KU fan who was born and raised in Des Moines.

He could barely contain his excitement when he got to see his favorite team in person Tuesday evening.

“You know they’re not number one because they’re lucky man, they’re a talented bunch, you know and I picked them to go all the way, so it is amazing that they are here, I get to see them,” said Talley.

The Jayhawks plan to practice Wednesday and will also hold an open practice, which Jayhawks fans are invited to attend at Wells Fargo Arena.
