A private funeral was held Tuesday for singer Joey Feek of the country duo Joey and Rory.
Joey was buried at a family cemetery at her and Rory’s Maury County farm.
She was diagnosed with Stage IV cervical cancer shortly after giving birth to her 2-year-old daughter.
Joey died Friday in her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana. She was 40.
Joey, 40, entered hospice care last November after she decided not to undergo additional treatment.
She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Indy, Heidi and Hopie.
Rory and his daughters returned to Tennessee shortly after Joey’s death.
In an online blog that chronicled his wife’s illness, he wrote about how difficult it would be to return to their Tennessee home.
“It’s hard for me to imagine being there without Joey, but at the same time… it is where she wants us to be. It’s where she will be… She’s gonna be in the mint growing beside our back deck, the sweet-corn frozen in our freezer and a million other places that her hand and heart has touched around our little farmhouse and community. Joey will still be with us. Everywhere,” Rory said on his blog.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Joey+Indy at P.O. Box 5471 Vancouver, WA, 98668.
