Topeka student killed in Wednesday morning crash

TOPEKA, Kansas – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle accident in the 100 block of NE 46th Street around 7:45 Wednesday morning.

A 2003 Suzuki Aerio was traveling westbound on NE 46th St when the vehicle entered the north shoulder. The driver overcorrected and the Suzuki crossed over to the eastbound lane where it was struck by a 2014 Ford F150.

The driver of the Suzuki was pronounced dead at the scene and identified as 16-year-old Samantha E. Coffee, a student at Seaman High School. The driver of the Ford F150 truck suffered minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office says both drivers were wearing their seat belts. The accident is still under investigation.

Seaman High School released the following statement late Wednesday morning:

We are saddened to report that on Wednesday morning a fatal crash claimed the life of a Seaman High School student. The entire Seaman community extends their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Seaman High School sophomore Samantha Coffee. Administration and staff are taking steps to assist students, including making counselors available for those who need it.”
