New fire chief named in Salina

SALINA, Kan. – the City of Salina is getting a new fire chief.

Salina City Manager Jason Gage said in a news release Junction City Fire Chief Kevin Royse has been appointed to the position.

Royse was selected from among 32 candidates from around the country who competed for the position.

Gage said Royse comes to Salina with nearly 29 years of fire service experience.

Royse’s career in firefighting began in Wichita where he held various ranks, including battalion chief, before being named fire chief in Junction City in 2013.

“Kevin is a very competent and bright person,” said Gage.  “He has the integrity, skill set and leadership ability to keep Salina’s fire department as one of the best in Kansas.

Royse starts his new job in mid-February.
