TOPEKA, Kansas – House Speaker Ray Merrick on Tuesday released the following statement after Governor Brownback’s annual State of the State address:

“The state of the state hit many notes that are important to Kansans. We have an opportunity to design an education funding system that will put more money toward the classroom, teachers, and instruction, which will truly benefit students. I support the governor’s call to move up the effective date of the property tax lid so voters have a say on whether or not their property tax bill increases. I’m proud of the legislature’s work with the governor to address poverty through employment, which is the truly compassionate way to help Kansans who are struggling.”
