Man sentenced in death of state lawmaker’s wife

WICHITA, Kansas – A man was sentenced Monday in the death of state representative’s wife.

Chris Schrader, 23, pled no contest to involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influences and conspiracy to commit distribution of a controlled substance.

Last February, Annette Hedke, the wife of State Representative Dennis Hedke of Wichita, was walking to her car when she fell to the ground and was hit by the small SUV driven by Schrader at the Dillons store at 21st and Rock Road.

Judge Warren Wilbert sentenced Schrader to 69 months in prison.

Representative Dennis Hedke has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in response to the incident.  The lawsuit seeks more than $75,000.
