Hield, Brown capture Big 12 weekly accolades

IRVING, Texas – For the third straight week guards have led the way in the Big 12 as Buddy Hield (Oklahoma) and Barry Brown (Kansas State) have earned Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week honors. It is the third accolade of the season for Hield, while Brown is recognized for the first time.

PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Hield averaged an astounding 38.5 points in two games last week to go along with 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. The senior guard shot a sizzling 64.9 percent from the field, including 60.9 percent from 3-point range. He started the week with one of the best games in Big 12 history, finishing with 46 points, eight rebounds and seven assists at Kansas – the second-highest scoring effort in conference history and the most for an OU player since 1990-91. It tied for the most points by a Division I player this year and marked just the 19th time in the last 20 years that anyone had finished with at least 45 points and five assists in a game. Hield then posted 31 points in 32 minutes in a win over Kansas State. He has scored at least 20 points in eight straight games and boasts six 30-point outputs in 2015-16. The six 30-point performances is tied for the second-most through 14 games since 2010.

Brown came off the bench to lead K-State in scoring at Texas and Oklahoma during the past week. The freshman guard averaged 17.0 points on 48.1 percent shooting with 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He started with a team-high 15 points versus the Longhorns on 5-of-11 shooting in 24 minutes off the bench. Brown then added 19 points in Norman, scoring 12 of his points in the second half as the Wildcats tried to rally from a deficit against the Sooners. He has led Kansas State in scoring four times in the last five contests.
