WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has told members of a predominantly African-American church in Waterloo, Iowa, that greed is destroying the American economy.

The pastor of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church had invited the Vermont senator to address its Sunday morning service.

Sanders said African-American youths are too likely to be unemployed or to wind up in prison. He said the solutions he offers like free college tuition are hindered by rich and powerful Americans who lack concern for the poor.

Sanders said the nation needs to have the same kind of concern for the underprivileged that is evidenced in churches.
