LARNED, Kansas -The Pawnee County Community Food Bank in Larned was broken into early on Wednesday morning. The police found a man lying in the middle of the road around 2:00 a.m. with a shopping cart full of food.
The food bank housed five non-profit organizations. Inside the food bank, blood was found on food and freezers and oil and gas stolen from Don’s Motors was emptied all over the ground and on clothing and food.
The non-profit organizations and churches have teamed up to gather donation sand provide food for those in need while the food bank is shut down for cleaning.
“I know this community and I know that it’s going to come back probably better than it was before,” said Pastor Mike Slattery of the First Baptist Church.
The United Way of Central Kansas is helping out the food bank by paying for the cleaning and accepting donations.
The United Methodist Church of Larned and Farmers Bank and Trust are accepting donations. The United Way of Central Kansas is also accepting donations in Great Bend, their number is (620) 792-2403.
