SUMNER COUNTY, Kansas – A woman was airlifted to a Wichita Hospital Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in Sumner County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash took place around 3:10 p.m. when a  2003 Hyundai Accent driven by a 30-year-old Arkansas City woman rear-ended a 1990 Chevy pickup driven by a 22-year-old Mulvane man.

KHP said the pickup was southbound on K-15 highway near 1st Road in Sumner County when it slowed to turn onto 1st Road.  Troopers say the woman driving the Hyundai hit the back of the truck at a high rate of speed.

The woman, who was not wearing her seatbelt, suffered critical injuries and was taken by helicopter to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The man driving the truck and a 14-year-old boy who was his passenger were taken to William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.  Their conditions were not known.
