If you think Barbie dolls are just for girls, Mattel disagrees.
For the first time, the company is running a Barbie commercial featuring a little boy.
Mattel said this tongue-in-cheek spot is a parody of the Barbie ads that ran in the 1980’s.
Some people are praising the toy company for challenging the stereo-type that only girls like dolls. However, others see it as confusing.
A psychologist spoke out on the matter.
“There’s simply not good evidence that shows that little boys who play with babies are going to go one way versus another in terms of gender preferences, in terms of gender identity, it’s a normal part of growing up,” said Dr. Josh Klapow.
In case you’re wondering, the Barbie featured in the ad isn’t cheap. She retails for $150 and is already sold out.
