WICHITA, Kansas – Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters proudly supports almost 6,000 matches statewide, but the need is still great, especially among boys looking for a positive male role models. Mark Davidson met one of them during a recent trip to the Wichita Ice Center where they took on a new challenge together.
With a host of helping hands, six-year-old Howard took to the ice and took to it quickly.
“You just gotta march first, then somebody’s gotta learn you and then you can do tricks and stuff,” he told us.
It was that simple, at least it was for Howard, who wasted no time showing his adventurous side.
“I was twisting and jumping and twisting again,” he said with a grin.
He’s a natural athlete who enjoys a number of sports.
“Football, basketball and hockey.”
And that makes a lot of sense when you watch him skate. But there’s much more to Howard than that.
He likes school and having fun and says his friends would describe him as: “A great person to them.”
And that means he will make a fantastic Little Brother for one lucky Big. He doesn’t ask for much.
“We would hang out and eat some food and stuff,” he predicts, “and go to his house and play games.”
Now all that’s missing is you… a Big Brother who will soon discover that when you “Give a Little”, you get so much more.
