GARDEN CITY, Kansas – No students were on board when a Garden City USD 457 school bus over-shot a curve on Sagebrush Road Wednesday morning around 7:00 a.m in Garden City.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the bus driver, who hasn’t been identified, was uninjued after the bus drove down into the Arkansas River riverbed just south of town. The bus was on its way to start the morning pick-up route.

“It didn’t roll over,” said Trooper Michael Racy, KHP. “It did strike a small tree brush that’s down in the river that helped keep it up right, keep it on its wheels the whole time.”

The cause of the accident is still under investigation but KHP says it’s a miracle the bus didn’t roll over.
