WICHITA, Kansas – One person is dead following a shooting in southeast Wichita.
It happened around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday evening in the 800 block of S. Broadview.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound, not breathing. The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 7:30 p.m.
Lt. Ron Hunt said Sedgwick County Emergency Communications began receiving multiple calls around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday night of shots being fired at a residence.
Witnesses reported two or three individuals, one of which was from the area near the shooting, who may have been involved. Hunt said those individuals should be considered armed and dangerous.
Detectives believe at least 20 shots were fired during the incident.
Officers say the shots were fired from outside the residence, and the victim who was struck, was inside the home. Hunt said detectives were also in communication with another person who was inside the home at the time. That person was not injured.
Officers were going door-to-door asking neighbors if they saw anything or if they had any videos that may have captured what happened. Hunt is asking anyone with any information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
Wichita Police are expected to release more information Thursday morning at their daily media briefing.
