Arkansas City man arrested after runaway girl found in his house

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (KSN) – An Arkansas City man has been arrested after a runaway juvenile from Missouri was found at his residence.

City officials say in a news release 18-year-old Ricky Lee Meyers II was arrested on suspicion of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and contributing to the misconduct of a child. He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $5,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City.

Officers received information Tuesday from the Greene County Missouri Sheriff’s Office that a 15-year-old female runaway from Springfield, Mo. might be in the Arkansas City area with her boyfriend.

Police went went to Meyers’ residence in the 900 block of N. Fourth Street late Tuesday afternoon to check for the missing girl. No one initially answered the door, but a resident arrived at the scene a short time later while officers were talking with neighbors.

After the resident consented to allowing officers to enter the home they made contact with Meyers. A search of the premises found the 15-year-old girl hiding in the home’s basement.

Both Meyers and the juvenile were taken into custody after officers confirmed she was listed as a runaway. They were interviewed and information was gathered pertaining to the investigation.

The girl was taken to Cowley County Juvenile Intake to be held for authorities in Greene County.
