MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma (AP) – Authorities say an 18-year-old man has died after being shot by a Midwest City police officer on the campus of Rose State College.

Police Chief Brandon Clabes said Tuesday that Charles Pettit of Oklahoma City died on Friday. Pettit was shot by officer James Hill around 4 a.m. on Oct. 5.

According to authorities, Hill was chasing Pettit across a parking lot of the college from the scene of a burglary when Pettit stopped and pointed a gun at the officer. Hill then shot Pettit multiple times. Clabes says Hill had ordered him to show his hands.

Earlier this month, Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater ruled the shooting was justified.
