MAIZE, Kan. (KSN) – This morning, Maize Elementary students completed their “Maize Marathon.”

For several weeks, students from Maize Elementary have been coming to school early, running about a mile a day.

Those students ran their final stretch around eight o’clock this morning, completing their 26 point two miles, the official distance of a marathon race.

KSN spoke to one student, who said he’s proud, and he’s excited to finish the run.

“It’s a big achievement,” said Maize Elementary Student Devin Short. “I really couldn’t sleep last night because I was so excited to get this thing done.”

Students were cheered on by a crowd of supporters, plus special appearances by the high school band.

School officials tell us this event helps students learn that they can accomplish big goals by taking things one step at a time.
