ROSE HILL, Kansas – Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet is warning residents to be aware of false phone calls from an individual identifying himself as being with the Butler County Warrants and Citation Division.

Sheriff Herzet said the caller tells residents there is a warrant for their arrest for failure to appear at jury duty. The caller then asks the individual to provide their cellular phone number and purchase a large amount of pre-paid credit cards to pay the fines on the warrant.

Sheriff Herzet notes that the Butler County Sheriff’s Office does not call individuals and ask them to provide prepaid telephone or credit cards. Further, he says his office has confirmed with the Courts in the 13th Judicial District that no warrants have been issued for failure to report to jury duty.

He urges anyone who receives a call claiming to be with his office and asking for money to hang up immediately call local authorities to make a report.
