Cell phone with 1.8K child porn photos found in downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday after a cell phone that had over 1,800 child porn images was found in a downtown Nashville park.

According to a press release, the phone was found by two people on Sept. 1. When going through the phone to find who it belonged to, police say they saw apparent child pornography as well as a photo of a nude man they recognized.

They turned the phone in to the Metro Nashville Police Department and identified the man as Thomas Eaton, who police say is homeless.

A week later on Sept. 8, a search warrant was obtained on the phone to examine it.

Authorities say that’s when over 1,800 sexual images of minor children, pre-teen males and females, infants and toddlers were found. The photos reportedly depicted those children having sexual acts performed on them.

Metro police state in the affidavit the phone also contained videos, one of which depicted a very young infant with male anatomy forced into its mouth while finishing a sexual act.

The “last access” dates on the images ranged from Aug. 17 through Aug. 24.

After reviewing the text messages and emails, authorities identified the phone’s owner to be Thomas Eaton.

Police reported the phone also contained selfie photos of Eaton and that he also identified himself by name in other communications.

He faces “very serious” charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and criminal impersonation, the latter of which comes from Eaton reportedly claiming to be someone else when he was located by an officer.

He was booked into the Davidson County jail on $151,500. He is due in court Oct. 9.
