Garden City begins search for new police chief

GARDEN CITY, Kansas – Garden City in western Kansas has begun the process of hiring a new police chief.

City officials said staff met with a group of local advisory committees, partner agencies, community organizations and members of the public to discuss the position and the qualities they would be looking for in the new chief.

Chief James Hawkins retired at the end of May 2015 after a 31-year career in law enforcement,including 19 years at the helm of the Garden City Police Department.

City officials said they will advertise for applicants for the position locally and conduct a national search through the month of October.

An initial resume review will take place in the first week of November.
