Police arrest woman wanted in connection with Chautauqua murder

Brittany R. McDay

WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police have arrested 22-year-old Brittany Renee McDay of Wichita.  A warrant for McDay’s arrest had been issued following the murder of a 66-year-old woman earlier in the month, but McDay was able to evade police.

Sunday police arrested McDay in the 2600 block of South Fees on a charges of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, theft of property of service and criminal use of a financial card.

Her arrest comes just more than a week since her alleged counter part, 21-year-old Jacob Daniel Strouse was arrested on felony murder charges.

Police believe the two are connected to the murder of 66-year-old Jacquelyn Harvey who was found dead from a gunshot wound the morning of September 16.

Harvey’s neighbors were shocked to learn of her murder.

“She was an absolute sweetheart. If she saw you outside she would stop you and talk to you and she would have done anything for anybody at anytime. ” says neighbor Lorene Hatfield. “I fully believe if she only had $20 and you needed ten of it, she’d have given it to you.”

According to Lt. Todd Ojile of the Wichita Police Department, the victim’s body had at least one gunshot wound and her purse and SUV were missing. The victim’s vehicle was eventually recovered the Wednesday following the murder. That Thursday, police arrested a 36-year-old man as a person of interest who led them to Strouse and, ultimately, McDay.
