WICHITA, Kansas – Starting today, new security procedures are in effect at Wichita’s East High School.
The changes come after a man walked in to the school through an unlocked, unattended door earlier this month during school hours.
The man is accused of sexual battery against a female student inside a women’s bathroom.
“During the school day, all exterior doors of East High will be locked except door number four, which is on the south side of the building,” said Susan Arensman, Wichita Public Schools.
Visitors must enter through that door and be checked in with the hall pass system and receive a visitor badge.
The attendance office will be moved closer to the entrance to make it more convenient for students and family members.
District officials say they are continuing to look at security options, and this is a first step.
East High encourages parents who have questions to call the school office.
