WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police officers strive to create a positive image with kids, as well as promote internet safety and fitness.
The annual Shock, Cops and Kids event brought out close to 150 young people at Koch Arena Saturday.
Organizers set up several workshops geared toward promoting healthy eating and internet safety.
The Wichita Police Department says having younger kids interact with WSU students let them meet students who attend college and strive for those goals.
“This gives them the opportunity to see that, see the potential, interact with them and start setting some goals at an early age,” said Wichita Police Detective, Jennifer Wright.
Officers also want to establish a relationship with kids to the point where children feel comfortable enough to tell them anything.
Volunteers ranged from deputies with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office to the workers with the Department for Children and Family.
