WICHITA, Kansas – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department continues to get reports of someone calling people and telling them he is a deputy.

The caller tells them they have a warrant for their arrest for failing to appear for jury duty. He then directs them to buy a pre-paid Visa card (Green Dot Card) and call him back to give him the numbers from the card. By doing this, he says they can pay their fine without going to jail. He further threatens that deputies will be at their house to arrest them if they do not pay their fine over the phone with a pre-paid card.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says they do not operate in this manner.

Anyone who has been a victim is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency to report it.

Additionally, anyone can check to see if they have a warrant at www.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriff.
