Newton places a lockdown at all schools due to stabbing

NEWTON, Kansas – Newton, USD 373, has  instituted a modified lockdown for all Newton Schools in response to a stabbing that occurred Thursday night.

According to Newton Police Chief Eric Murphy, a woman was stabbed multiple times during a domestic dispute around 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

Officials are working closely with the police and will remain on modified lockdown until the situation is resolved.

Activities inside the school will go on as normal, but front doors will be locked and entry will be strictly monitored.

Administrators say the purpose is to ensure the safety of our students and staff members.
