GODDARD, Kansas– A tragic accident in Goddard on Friday morning left two men dead. Friends and family say they were best of friends, just taking their daily walk when they were hit by a pickup truck.
Many neighbors told KSN the same thing, both men were wonderful people. In such a close-knit neighborhood news of Friday morning’s accident traveled quickly.
“We had two elderly gentlemen with one of their dog, they were crossing the crosswalk when they were impacted by an individual driving a small pickup truck,” said Goddard Interim Police Chief Don McElroy.
The accident was felt by many.
“They were both neighbors of mine, so it’s pretty tough,” McElroy said.
KSN spoke with some family members who said they were still in shock, but say the pair were best friends and neighbors for years. Even those who didn’t know them well still knew them from their daily walks through the neighborhood.
“They were walking. They walk every day,” said McElroy.
The driver of the truck was cooperative with police and the accident is still under investigation.
“What exactly the reason for that impact was we don’t know. We need to get to the bottom of the story and that’s what we’re going to try to do,” he said.
With quiet roads and slow speeds the tragedy is hard for many along Walnut and Brazos to understand.
Police still have not released the names of the gentlemen, but one was 69, the other 72. Neighbors say one always wore an OU hat and the other Oklahoma State, but despite the rivalry they were dear friends.
