Arkansas City police make two arrests related to child’s death

ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas – According to a press release from the Arkansas City Police Department, two Arkansas City residents were arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, in connection with the death of a 16-month-old child Tuesday afternoon. It happened at the MeadowWalk Apartments at 925 W. Skyline Road.

After conducting interviews and a search warrant at the residence, police arrested the victim’s mother, Lindsey Abegg, 29, and her live-in boyfriend, Jacob Brickey, 27, on suspicion of second-degree murder, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana and methamphetamine.

Both Abegg and Brickey were transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail, where they are being held without bond.

Around 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the MeadowWalk Apartments at 925 W. Skyline Road for a medical emergency involving a child.

When crews arrived on scene, the child was found deceased.

The cause of death has not been determined and an autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing and the ACPD has no further details to release at this time.
