Family Crisis Center gets good news after a lost grant

GREAT BEND, Kansas – Last month the Family Crisis Center lost a $70,000 grant for their women’s shelter. The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation who gives the grant said they had concerns with Barton County’s audit last year.

The Family Crisis Center reapplied for the grant with the help of the City of Great Bend. The center now has good news, they’re getting $56,000 in grant money, but it’s $20,000 less than they asked for.

“I know that they had made some decisions so when we had asked them to reconsider that always throws a wrench in things so it may be down because of that, but I’m grateful they reconsidered, and I’m grateful that we got the funds,” said Laura Patzner, Executive Director of the Family Crisis Center.

The Family Crisis Center says it will be pinching pennies to get by, but they’re happy that they get to keep the women’s shelter going. They do accept donations of money and items like canned food and cleaning supplies at their location at 1924 Broadway Ave in Great Bend.
