Suspect arrested in west Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police say a 24-year-old man was shot in the head. It happened in the 300 block of North Elizabeth around 2:20 Friday morning. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Police say the shooting stemmed from a fight earlier in the evening. Police say a 23-year-old woman got into an argument with her 28-year-old boyfriend (the suspect) at an area nightclub.

“The suspect became jealous of his girlfriend being there with the other guys. While inside the club, the suspect pepper sprayed the 23-year-old woman. They were escorted from the club,” said Lt. James Espinoza.

The woman returned to her home in the 300 block of North Elizabeth where her boyfriend was waiting inside. He threatened her. She called over some men to help her. When they arrived, the woman’s boyfriend struck a 21-year-old man in the head with the gun.

“At some point, the suspect fired a round through a door striking the 24-year-old man in the head,” said Espinoza.

The 28-year-old suspect left on foot. Police arrested him late this morning.
