Escaped inmate from Colorado crashes into building in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY, Kansas – The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office says an escaped inmate from the Colorado Department of Corrections crashed a stolen dump truck into the Pioneer Communications Building Thursday evening.

Several agencies were involved with the pursuit that picked up at Saunders. Saunders is just over the Colorado/Kansas state line.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Department deployed spike strips to stop the inmate.

He has been identified as Douglas Beagley. Beagley was assigned to an outside work crew and was operating a dump truck when he drove off Thursday afternoon.  Beagley was serving time for burglary and vandalism. He is 62 years old.
