Curtis Mitchell gets ‘Hard 50’ for the murder of Tanya Tandoc

WICHITA, Kansas – The man who pleaded guilty to the murder of popular restaurant owner Tanya Tandoc was sentenced Thursday morning in Sedgwick County Court. Curtis Mitchell received the “Hard 50” sentence. Mitchelll declined to speak.

The judge said he will be eligible for parole after 50 years and will receive credit for jail time he has served.

Back in June, Mitchell pleaded guilty to first-degree murder after admitting he killed Tandoc. She was found dead in the basement of her home on June 4. Her body remained in the basement approximately 24 hours after she was murdered.

Tandoc was the owner of Tanya’s Soup Kitchen. Tandoc was also a well-known artist, musician, and dancer. She had allowed Mitchell to live in her basement.
