Wichita State’s Ron Baker starts for U.S. in opener at Pan Am Games

TORONTO – Tipping off the Pan American Games on Tuesday in Toronto, Wichita State’s Ron Baker scored seven points, all in the fourth quarter in an 85-62 U.S. win over Venezuela.

The Scott City native started for the U.S. and played roughly 22 minutes. His seven point total included a three pointer in the final seconds.

Trailing by eight points at halftime, the USA stormed back to outscore Venezuela by 31 in the second half.

Former Kansas Jayhawk Keith Langford added three points and three rebounds for the U.S.

Next up, the United States plays Puerto Rico on Wednesday night. Coached by Louisville’s Rick Pitino, Puerto Rico has former WSU Shocker Ramon Clemente on the roster, along with ex-KU Jayhawk Kevin Young.
