Important safety alert for Ikea chests and dressers

An important safety alert for anyone owning Ikea children’s furniture.

Ikea is offering a free wall anchoring kit for about 27 million chests and dressers after two children died when the furniture tipped over and fell onto them.

The nationwide repair program involves about 7 million Malm chests and 20 million other Ikea chests and dressers that pose a tip-over hazard.

Last year, a 2-year-old boy died in Pennsylvania after a Malm 6 drawer chest tipped over and fatally pinned him against his bed, and a 23-month-old child died in Washington state after becoming trapped underneath a three-drawer Malm chest that tipped over.

Neither chest had been secured to the wall.

Ikea has also received 14 other reports of tip-over incidents, resulting in four injuries.

To receive a free wall anchoring kit, visit an Ikea retail store, go to www.IKEA-USA.com/saferhomestogether or call (888) 966-4532.
